Boyle's Law

Boyle's law was names after Irish philosopher Robert Boyle who was the first to publish Boyle's law in 1662. The relationship between pressure and volume was brought to Boyle's attention by some fellow scientists who discovered it and Boyle just refined in a little bit. many people don't realize that water is about 1000 times more dense than air at the surface level. Which this basically means if you go down 33 feet into the water you are only equivalent to two times the normal atmospheric pressure. Air at higher altitudes is less compressed so therefore it takes more volume than it would at sea level. The higher up you go the same thing is true. The lower you go into the water the opposite is true. This part of what Boyle's law is all about.

One of the misconceptions that people have that the deeper in the ocean that a diver goes the less air is in his lungs. This isn't true at all a diver who goes 66 feet down would have 3 times the air he would on the surface. Many people wonder why that is because the pressure increases as you go deeper into the water. On the surface you have less pressure on you thus making the difference.At 99 feet the diver would be able to hold 4 times the amount of air as he would on the surface. Boyle's law has been people who have problems with it but through the years nobody has really challenged it. A scuba diver has less to do with Boyle's law than a regular diver as usually scuba diver have more equipment on than a regular diver thus more protection is afforded him.

With diving Boyle's law have many different affects which many people sometimes don't really understand. Boyle's law is easier to understand when your above the water as when your in the water the temperature can change very rapidly as you descend, where that isn't something that has alot on the surface. no matter what many people are confused about Boyle's law and I can understand that, but hopefully in the future we will have more education and people will better understand what it's all about.
